Cristiano Ronaldo suspended for five games for pushing a referee

Cristiano Ronaldo suspended for five games for pushing a referee after a red card for diving in a Real Madrid 3-1 victory against Barcelona during the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup.

Ronaldo scored a distance to get a 2-1 led to Madrid a few moments after Lionel Messi created the tie on a penalty kick. But the celebration of his goal, when he took of his jersey and flaunted his muscles, quickly received a yeallow card.

Just two minutes later, he made an incursion into the opposing rea andcrashed with Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti. Ronaldo fell in hopes of getting a penalty. But, referee De Burgos Bengoetxea gave him a second yellow card for dive and sent him off.

Problematic, the 32-year-old striker raised his arms before running into the referee and pushing him in the back with his right hand.

The official match report sent to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) from Barcelona included Ronaldo’s action push in the other incidents section.

“Cristiano Ronaldo Dos Santos Aveiro, having been shown the red card, the player pushed me slightly in a sign of his disagreement,”

The RFEF has ruled that Ronaldo’s action violated Article 96 of his disciplinary code, which stipulates that “ligght aggression” defiended as “pulling, pushing and shaking” a referee is sanctioned by suspensions of 4 to 12 games.

The RFEF aslos charged a fine of 3,005 euros on Ronaldo and 1,400 euros on Madrid for the action and 600 euros for the players and 350 euros for the club for have dived.

The RFEF tells Real Madrid have ten days tofile an appeal with their appeals committee, while adding in their report that the club tried to get the fault downgraded from a push to a minor “ignored” for a referee.

The Portuguese will miss the second leg of the Super Cup on Wednesday, in Madrid, plus to four matches of the Spanish La Liga.

Madrid starts their season in the La Liga against Deportivo La Coruna on this Sunday. Their next three games will be against Valencia, Levante and Real Sociedad.
