Crystal Palace successfully beat Manchester United with a landslide score of 4-0 in the match week 36 of the 2023/2024 Premier League which was held at Selhurst Park, Monday (6/5/2024).
Michael Olise was the star of Crystal Palace’s victory by scoring two goals. Meanwhile, the other two goals were scored by Jean-Philippe Mateta and Tyrick Mitchell respectively.
Thanks to this result, Crystal Palace is now ranked 14th in the standings table with 43 points. Meanwhile, Man United has to settle for being in eighth place with 54 points.
Crystal Palace immediately appeared aggressive from the start of the match. As a result, Olise was successful in opening the hosts’ lead in the 12th minute with a shot after making a solo run from the middle of the field.
In the 27th minute, Man United scored a goal through Casemiro’s header which Dean Henderson failed to anticipate. However, the referee annulled this goal because Rasmus Hojlund was deemed to have violated Henderson.
Instead of catching up, Man United actually got worse after Mateta successfully beat Andre Onana in the 40th minute. The 2-0 score for the hosts lasted until halftime.
Returning from the dressing room, Crystal Palace were still in control of the game. Mitchell also made Man United’s wounds worse through the goal he scored in the 58th minute.
Olise really became Man United’s nightmare in this match. He found the net again on Onana in the 66th minute, this time using Daniel Munoz’s assist.
Man United tried to find a consolation goal in the remaining time, but their efforts ended in vain. A score of 4-0 for Crystal Palace’s victory was the final result of this match.
Eriksen refused to blame the injuries that befell his team. He believes that the Man United squad should have played better in this match.
“We can’t blame injuries for our performance today. We should try to play better on the pitch,” continued Eriksen.
“Today, no matter who plays, all of our players should have played better in this match.”
Furthermore, Eriksen openly admitted that United performed poorly in this match. So he considered that all Man United players deserved to be blamed for the defeat,
“I don’t know why we could play like today. We didn’t play well enough,” continued Eriksen.
“We have tried to play better, but in reality our efforts were not good enough. As players, we deserve to be blamed for this result,” he concluded.
