Jason Robertson on Monday scored a hat-trick for the Dallas Stars, leading them to a 5-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 3 of the Western Conference Final at Rogers Place.
Wyatt Johnston and Miro Heiskanen secured the other goal for Dallas by scoring into the empty net.
Jake Oettinger successfully made 26 saves, while Roope Hintz, Tyler Seguin, and Jamie Benn each contributed with two assists.
“You want to help the team win, you want to score goals. Scoring one gives you confidence like a domino effect.” Robertson said.
Connor McDavid reached 100 career playoff points with a goal and an assist, while Zach Hyman and Adam Henrique also scored for Edmonton. Stuart Skinner made 17 stops in the game.
After a challenging first period in which they were outplayed, the Stars came out strong in the second period.
Robertson seized the opportunity to score his first goal in 10 games, putting his team on the scoreboard.
The trio of Robertson, Hintz, and Tyler Seguin swiftly reentered the attack less than three minutes later.
Robertson found the back of the net for the second time, leveling the game. Hintz marked his second assist of the game on his teammate’s goal.
In the absence of Hintz, Wyatt Johnston struggled to score in four games, but his connection with Jamie Benn and Logan Stankoven in the third game proved to be a turning point for him.
The young Stars forward netted the team’s third unanswered goal in the middle period, granting them their very first lead in Edmonton.
“We started winning our battles. We brought the pucks deep into their territory, while we lost them in the neutral zone during the first period.” Hintz said.
“We have to go into the next game with the mentality of winning every battle or every race for the puck.” he added.
