UFC president Dana White is now optimistic about a boxing match between Conor McGregor and American boxers, Floyd Mayweather. Present at the American talk show “Conan” on Wednesday, White said that no agreement has yet been initialed, but he believes it could be only a matter of time.
“I think it’s going to happen,” White told Conan O’Brien. “However, it will be a difficult deal to negotiate because there will be a lot of egos and individuals involved, which makes things a lot more complicated. On the other side, since there will be so much money involved, I do not see how it can not be done.” White added.
Before going on Wednesday, White has always been pessimistic about holding the event. He had promised a failure for McGregor if the Irish fighter tried to box without the UFC’s agreement. McGregor, is the UFC lightweight champion and is under exclusive contract with the organization.
As for Mayweather, who retired in 2015 with a 49-0 record, he recently announced that he would retire to face McGregor in this June. He said that it won’t be happened as he turned 40.
“For Conor McGregor, I’m out of retirement just for a fight against Conor McGregor,” Mayweather said in a video posted on Saturday by the FightHype website.
“I do not want to hear any more apology about the UFC (the main organizer of AMM fights with whom McGregor is under exclusive contract). Signs a paper with the UFC for a fight in June.
“I officially leave my retirement for Conor McGregor, we have no more time to lose, let’s make this happen quickly, in June,” he added.
