With the success of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor fight last August, UFC president Dana White recently spoke on the company’s behalf about possibly venturing into boxing. One of the sport’s oldest promoters, Bob Arum, however, calls it a “desperate” move on the UFC’s part and likened White’s “charisma” to Donald Trump’s.
The ever-outspoken Dana White, of course, refused to be outdone and responded to Arum in a recent interview on the Jim Rome podcast.
“F—k him. F—k that guy,” White said (transcribed by MMA Weekly). “This is the same guy who said this same shit 15 years ago about me and the Fertittas. He said ‘they’re losing oodles and oodles of money’ and this business was a joke, it was going to go under, nobody will ever be into a sport like this and here we are today.”
“This guy is such a jerk off. Literally the biggest piece of sh-t in all of the sports, Bob Arum, ladies and gentlemen.”
Boxing as a form of prizefighting has been around way longer than the UFC and MMA has. But even so, White is confident that the UFC can do a better job promoting boxing fights than everyone in the business right now.
“I just know how good we are at what we do. I know we’re better than pretty much everybody else out there,” White said. “I think that the guys who are involved in boxing, the fighters, would enjoy being under this umbrella and fighting for us. Yeah, I do think we could do it better than everybody else does.
“So what the hell, why not give it a shot?”
