Daniil Medvedev has heaped praise on Djokovic and ranked him in the list of three championship contenders, alongside Rafael Nadal and Matteo Berrettini.
Wimbledon 2022 will officially start on June 27. Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal promise to create a dream final at a grass-court Grand Slam.
“Novak has always been a strong contender. He’s played really well and won the last three at Wimbledon.” Medvedev said.
“When it comes to the best tennis players in history on grass courts. I always put him first, even though I have never seen Bjorn Borg or Pete Sampras play.
“In my generation, Federer and Djokovic are the best. Of course Nadal can win any tournament he attends, and Berrettini is playing top-class tennis.
“Speaking of Wimbledon 2022 title contenders, it would be Djokovic, Berrettini and Nadal.” Medvedev added.
Nadal will make his return to Wimbledon after a three-year break. The world No. 4 hadn’t played on Centre Court since 2019, when he lost to Switzerland’s Roger Federer in a four-set semifinal.
Marc Lopez, a member of Nadal’s coaching staff, revealed in an interview with Eurosport that the 36-year-old tennis player is trying to adapt to grass again, especially after a foot injury.
“There are good days and bad days. Playing on grass is always tough because everything happens so fast on the court.” Lopez said.
“We are training with practice partners who can serve well. Right now everyone and everything is positive.” he added.
While Djokovic, the Serbian tennis icon will be attended Wimbledon as the defending champion. In the context that the world No. 1 player Daniil Medvedev was banned from playing Wimbledon 2022 and the second-ranked player on the ATP rankings Alexander Zverev withdrew due to injury.
