Everton have appointed David Unsworth as the club manager on Tuesday, following Monday’s sacked of manager Ronald Koeman after a 5-2 slap shot at Arsenal, according to report.
Unsworth took his first charge on Wednesday against Chelsea for League Cup game. He could continue to take care of the team at least until the international truce scheduled in a fortnight.
In the meantime, Everton has to face Leicester City and Watford in the Premier League and Lyon in the Europa League.
“Everton Football Club can confirm that David Unsworth will take temporary charge of the Everton first team, commencing with tomorrow night’s League Cup tie at Stamford Bridge,” said an Everton statement released Tuesday.
The 44-year-old is a huge favourite with the fans having served the club with difference as a player, making 350 appearances during two spells at Everton.
The Toffees are currently at 18th place in the Premier League standings with 8 points. They have just won two of their nine league games this season and left them in the English Premier League relegation zone alongside AFC Bournemouth and Crystal Palace.
Everton had previously released its statement that Koeman has left his post due to poor form with the club so far.
“Everton football club can confirm that Ronald Koeman has left the club. Chairman Bill Kenwright, the board of directors and major shareholder Farhad Moshiri would all like to express their gratitude to Ronald for the service he has given to the club over the past 16 months and for guiding the club to seventh place in last season’s Premier League campaign.” a club statement released on Monday.

Koeman, who had led the club to seventh place last season, paid the price for a poor start to this season despite having spent 140 million pounds this summer.
“Thanked the players and the staff for all their hard work and commitment during my 16 months as Everton manager.” Koeman posted on his social media account.
“Of course, I am disappointed at the moment but I wish the team good luck for the future.” added the Dutchman.
On the other hand, former Manchester United Ryan Giggs has claimed he interested to take over from Koeman. However, former Everton manager David Moyes, also appear as the huge favorite to succeed Koeman.
