The streaming service DAZN has confirmed that former MotoGP rider Jorge Lorenzo will expand the Spanish commentary team for the motorcycle world championship in 2022.
“I’m really looking forward to commenting. I know it’s something new for me and that I have a lot to learn, but I also know that I have a lot of experience in what I’m going to speak about and that I have a great contribution to make for the audience.” Lorenzo said.
It has been a while since we last saw Lorenzo full-time in the MotoGP paddock. The five-time world champion saw his impressive career go out like a candle in 2019.
Lorenzo made the switch from Ducati to the Repsol Honda season and had an absolute horror season.
In the end, a serious crash at the TT Circuit Assen, in which Lorenzo broke his back, turned out to be the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Lorenzo was not completely done with MotoGP, in the preseason of 2020 the Spaniard signed as a test driver with Yamaha, the manufacturer with which he won his three MotoGP world titles. However, this also turned out to be a major fiasco, the Spaniard was only called up once for testing and turned out to be far from fit at the time.
“I think I can bring a lot of technical freshness. Actually, in the last four or five years, I’ve been in all three big brands. I know motorcycles perfectly”. Lorenzo said.
Lorenzo was mainly engaged in investments and was involved in a number of projects such as the electric motorcycle brand VMoto.
In 2021, the 65-time Grand Prix winner showed himself a number of times during a Grand Prix weekend, but indicated that returning as a rider is no longer possible.
