Arsenal could only share points with the visiting team, Brighton and Hove Albion 1-1 in the third week of the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium, Saturday (31/8/2024).
In the 12th minute, Ben White’s ball hit Lewis Dunk’s arm. However, referee Chris Kavanagh did not consider the incident a violation in the penalty box.
Brighton threatened through Kaoru Mitoma’s shot in the 31st minute, but it still missed the right side of Arsenal’s goal.
Arsenal’s efforts to score a goal paid off in the 38th minute through Kai Havertz’s shot which utilized a pass from Bukayo Saka.
The goal started from a blunder by center back Lewis Dunk who failed to duel in the air with Bukayo Saka. Saka then gave a through ball to Havertz.
Havertz carefully made a high shot from outside the penalty box so that it deceived goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
Leading 1-0 in the first half made Arsenal blunder. Midfielder Declan Rice had to be sent off by the referee with a red card after receiving a second yellow card in the 49th minute.
Rice received the second yellow card for violating Veltman. The incident was controversial. In the replay, Rice was seen kicked by Vetlman.
However, when examined more closely, Rice appeared to have kicked the ball first which Vetlman was going to kick as a free kick.
Brighton took advantage of the advantage in the number of players. In the 58th minute, Joao Pedro successfully equalized. Lewis Dunk made up for his mistake in the first half by providing a neat lob pass.
The ball from Dunk was executed by Yankuba Minteh. However, Minteh’s kick was blocked by David Raya. The rebound from Minteh was finished well by Joao Pedro.
Without additional goals in the remaining match, Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton in the Premier League.
