Defeat Inter, Juventus Open Opportunities to the Champions League

Juventus opened up opportunities for the Champions League after beating Inter Milan in Week 37 of the Italian League at the Allianz Stadium, Turin, Saturday (15/5).

Atalanta and Inter Milan (Serie A champions) are the two teams that have now confirmed tickets to the Champions League next season.

Atalanta secured a ticket to next season’s Champions League after winning 4-3 in the match against Genoa in giornata 37, three hours before Juventus versus Inter.

This victory keeps Atalanta in second place in the standings with a collection of 78 points from 37 matches.

As a result, Atalanta certainly has the right to follow Inter to compete in the Champions League next season because it is impossible to finish under Juventus.

Even though Inter have confirmed the Italian League title, the duel against Juventus leaves its own prestige. Meanwhile the Bianconeri are struggling to finish in the top four.

Cristiano Ronaldo managed to bring Juventus ahead in the 23rd minute. Ronaldo’s execution was blocked by Samir Handanovic but the ball was still controlled and converted into a goal.

Juventus penalty was obtained after Matteo Darmian violated Giorgio Chiellini in the forbidden box.

Luckily for Inter, the referee also pointed to the spot after Matthijs de Ligt was caught stepping on Lautaro Martinez’s feet in the penalty box.

Romelu Lukaku, who ran as executor, managed to beat Wojciech Szczesny. Szczesny could not stop Lukaku’s kick towards the right of the goal.

Towards halftime, the hosts again took the lead through Juan Cuadrado’s long-range shot. Score 2-1 for Juventus excellence lasted until the break of the match.

Juventus had to lose one player in the second half after Rodrigo Bentancur was shown a red card. Superior players make Inter more flexible to apply pressure.

Inter finally managed to equalize thanks to Giorgio Chiellini’s own goal in the 83rd minute. However, five minutes later Juventus returned to winning 3-2 through Cuadrado’s penalty.

The referee pointed to the spot after Ivan Perisic was deemed to have committed a foul on Cuadrado in the penalty box. The Inter players had protested because Cuadrado appeared to be diving, but the referee was adamant about his decision.

These results brought Le Vecchia Signora up to fourth place with a collection of 75 points from 37 appearances. However, their position could still be displaced by Napoli, who have one more game remaining and are now in fifth.
