Dela hoya: Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder would be a 50/50 fight

Oscar De La Hoya believes a potential showdown between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder later in the year would be a 50/50 fight.

Wilder (39-0-38KO) will defend his WBC world heavyweight title against Luis Ortiz (28-0-24KO) in Brooklyn on Sunday March 4, live on Sky Sports Main Event from 2am.

If victorious, Wilder will be ringside in Cardiff as part of the Sky Sports punditry team, when IBF and WBA ‘Super’ holder Joshua (20-0-20KO) takes on WBO champion Joseph Parker (24-0-18KO) at the Principality Stadium, on March 31, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

If Wilder and Joshua both win their fights, the scene would be set for a potential blockbuster heavyweight unification bout between the pair later in the year.

Former six-weight world champion De La Hoya would find it difficult to predict a winner but is confident Joshua is ready to crack the lucrative United States market.

“It is a pick’em fight. It is a 50/50 fight,” De La Hoya said. “But I believe the fact that Anthony Joshua is only getting better, he is only getting stronger and he is only getting faster means the sky is the limit for Anthony Joshua and I cannot wait to see him in the US.

“I love Anthony Joshua. He is a great fighter and I believe he is reviving the heavyweight division. He is the man.

“And I believe Anthony Joshua can really become a superstar on a global scale.”
