Gaming and casino market in India tends to see much progress now with many changes in the law which have made casinos and gambling legal at different states here. Though it doesn’t seem to be that easy however Sikkim has cleared its way for India’s first betting shops to offer online gambling to people across India. Sikkim legislative assembly on July 30 paved its way for India’s first legal betting shops to be opened in the state. Sikkim originally hoped that it will allow people across India to gamble using websites located in the Himalayan state. However it is not that easy and Home Ministry has confined the gambling activities confined to the state. Still things look much better and many players have expressed their interest and even invested in the gambling industry.
Recently India based gaming operator, Delta Corp says it is set to operate a new casino in Sikkim in next two or three months. As per the reports from inside resources, Hotel Welcome heritage Denzong Regency in Gangtok has procured a license under Sikkim Casinos( Control & Tax) Act, 2002 to operate a live casino. This casino will be leased by Delta Corp and it will be responsible for the day to day operations of the casino.
Still the company has not made any announcement about its plan to operate a casino. Sikkim is already home to two existing casinos, Casino Mahjong in Mayfair resort and Casino Sikkim in Hotel Royal Plaza which is already well known and is doing brisk business. This new casino hotel is said to have a more strategic and convenient location and this happens to be closest to the Gangtok city. Delta Corp is already engaged with two offshore casinos and one more onshore casino operating in Goa and one resort in Daman which is awaiting an onshore casino license. With this new development, the company is looking forward to strengthening its position and become a market leader in the gaming industry as stated by GLaws Jay Satya.
Jay Satya further added “In light of this new development, Sikkim may become the preferred location for the gaming industry, overtaking Goa, where the casino industry has been reeling under the with full-fledged online gaming and betting operations also likely to start in the coming months,”
With this new casino coming up in Sikkim it will definitely attract interests from many other players who are waiting for the right moment to invest here in the gambling industry.
