Argentina football legend Diego Maradona died just three weeks after leaving hospital after undergoing brain surgery.
Some time ago, the neurologist who handled Maradona’s surgery, Dr. Leopoldo Luque, said Maradona experienced good development after the operation which took place on Tuesday (3/11).
Luque said the blood clot that lay between the membranes and brain of Maradona usually happened because of an accident, but Maradona does not remember having experienced the incident.
Three days after turning 60 on October 30, Maradona was rushed to the hospital on suspicions of dehydration, anemia and depression.
On his birthday, Maradona who was coach of Gimnasia La Plata, reportedly had difficulty walking at the end of the first half of a match.
Family and relatives have confirmed Maradona’s operation is going well.
Fans and world football figures, including Lionel Messi, prayed for Maradona via social media after news broke that the scorer of God’s Hand at the 1986 World Cup was hospitalized.
Even the President of Argentina, Alberto Fernandez, and President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro are said to have paid attention to the current condition of Maradona through the star’s lawyer, Matia Morla.
After being released from the hospital, Maradona is rumored to be undergoing recovery at his home in Buenos Aires.
However, Argentina media Clarin recently reported the news of the condolences of Maradona’s death on Wednesday (25/11). The news shocked world football.
Maradona’s body will be placed in Casa Rosada, Buenos Aires, so that the public can see the figure who is the key to Argentina’s success in becoming world champion in 1986.
The funeral home is also said to have been open since Wednesday.
Footballers and former athletes expressed their condolences, such as Pele, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Valentino Rossi.
Diego Maradona is a player of special quality. One proof of this is that he broke the transfer record twice as the most expensive player in the world.
Maradona’s talent as a great player has been detected since Maradona was young. Therefore, when Maradona’s career was shining with Boca Juniors, Barcelona did not hesitate to spend deeply to get his services.
Barcelona spent 3 million pounds in 1982. That record is almost double the previous record transfer in the name of Italian striker Paolo Rossi, which was booked in 1976.
At Barcelona, Maradona’s career has been colorful. He was haunted by a number of serious injuries and was also involved in a fight in the 1984 Copa del Rey final. Maradona was the main actor behind the brawl that occurred in that match.
Maradona’s game at Barcelona is not bad when you look at the goal record because he was able to score 38 goals in 58 matches. But Maradona’s dispute with Barcelona’s management, which was also disappointed by the controversy, prompted Maradona to leave the Camp Nou.
Barcelona sold Maradona to Napoli for a fee of five million pounds. This led Maradona to sharpen his transfer record in 1984.
Coming to Napoli also seems to be a proving ground for Maradona. Napoli was not an elite team when Maradona arrived.
Then Maradona succeeded in bringing Napoli to destroy the dominance of teams from North Italy such as Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan.
Maradona led Napoli to two Scudetto titles, followed by the Coppa Italia and League Cup titles. Maradona, who spent his best years as a footballer at Napoli, managed to change the face and elevate the club’s rank.
Maradona’s high price then feels cheap because Napoli seems to have a helper god who makes them meet a golden era.
Maradona’s own record for the most expensive player in the world was only broken in 1987 when Ruud Gullit came to AC Milan from PSV Eindhoven.
After Maradona decided to leave Napoli after seven seasons playing there, Maradona’s name remains respected in Napoli, even today.
