Dominic Thiem Outperforms Alexander Zverev In This Unique Record

Dominic Thiem

Dominic Thiem may not be an impressive the start of the 2021 season, but the world number 4 has managed to set one of the unique records.

Recently, world number 7 Alexander Zverev won his first title of the season at the Mexican Open in Acapulco after overthrowing world number 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets at the top.

Interestingly, with this victory, the German national, Zverev achieved another feat and is right behind the world number 4, Thiem.

Young tennis players are definitely shining even more and gaining some important momentum in recent seasons. Although the Top Three continue to dominate the world of tennis, players like the world number 4 and world number 7 give them a really tough competition.

This season’s Mexican Open title is Zverev’s (1997) 14th title so far. He is in second place, right after Dominic Thiem (1993) in the list of tennis players born after the 1990s who have bagged the most titles. The Austrian national is in first place with 17 titles, including her first Grand Slam title in her career, the 2020 US Open.

World number 2, Daniil Medvedev (1996) is in third place with ten titles. Runner-up for the Australian Open for the 2021 season, Medvedev recently claimed his first title of the season by winning the tournament in Marseille.

Bulgarian national Grigor Dimitrov (1991) is in fourth place with eight titles so far. Interestingly, with this achievement Dimitrov equaled Medvedev’s compatriot and world number 8, Andrey Rublev (1997), who won eight titles when he was 23 years old.

Rublev could have won another title, but lost to compatriot Aslan Karatsev in the semifinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships recently. Karatsev won the tournament in the end.

Born in 1990, the Canadian national, Milos Raonic also has the same number of titles as Dimitrov and Rublev. But, recently he has lost his magic touch and at this time, it will be very difficult for him to win the title. Australian national Nick Kyrgios (1995) is next with six titles.

What is surprising is that Greek national Tsitsipas has disappeared from the list after she has bagged just five titles and is sure to want to win more.
