Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo on Friday has arrived at Manchester United airport ahead of his debut at Old Trafford.
The former Juventus striker could be set to make his United debut against Newcastle United on 11 September. One wouldn’t put it past him to net against a weak Magpies side.
However, Ronaldo’s returns to United is “bad news” for Dutch midfielder Donny Van de Beek, according to his agent Guido Albers.
“Cristiano arrived on Friday which we knew was bad news for us. Pogba plays on the left, and with Cristiano’s arrival it means another extra player in midfield, with Pogba moving away from the left,” Albers said.
“We had conversations with Solskjaer and the board. We took the initiative to find a club and our search ended up at Everton. We opened talks with Marcel Brands and Farhad Moshiri.” Albers added.
Van de Beek joined United from Ajax for an initial £35m last summer. He scored on his competitive debut for the club, but managed just four starts in his first Premier League season.
“The way the conversation went this time with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer compared to last summer, things are much more clear now. I have full expectations that Donny will get his chance now.” Albers said.
“Donny worked extremely hard in the summer. He only had seven days off. The rest of the summer he trained to become top fit. He is totally ready.” he added.
Having found himself on the bench with no playing time in the first Premier League games of this season, Van de Beek also lost his place in the first selection for Dutch national coach Louis van Gaal. Under contract until June 2025, his market value is now estimated at 25 million euros.
