Dustin Johnson says he is ready for the U.S. Open

Dustin Johnson has issued a warning to all participants of the U.S. Open: he is in great shape and will probably be the man to beat when the tournament starts on June 14, at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, in Long Island, New York.

Following his unmistakable victory Sunday at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, which he won by a margin of six strokes, Johnson took back the title of the world’s first player and showed a splendid form that looked a lot like the one he showed last year before getting hurt on the eve of the Masters Tournament.

“I’m glad it’s over for sure. What a cool way to end the day, the hole that shot on 18. A lot of good things happened this week.” said Johnson on CBS Sports.

“I knew coming in I was swinging really well and had a lot of confidence in the game. I played really well all week. It feels like it’s been a long time. But it’s only been six months.” he added.

The American golfer had just won three tournaments, dominated all his peers and was seen as the favorite to win the 2017 Masters.

It can be said without a shadow of a doubt that Johnson finds himself, 14 months later, in a strong position, similar to the day before the second major tournament of the season. The bookkeepers and most of the experts have set him a big favorite to win the U.S. Open next Sunday.

Johnson has just won an 18th career title and a 2nd this season. But above all, the quality of his current game makes him a player in a class of his own. His tee shots reach astronomical distances and are found mostly in the aisle.

His game with irons is impeccable and his wedge shots are a precision to dream. In fact, Johnson shows no weakness in any aspect of the game and his exemplary attitude also helps to consolidate the whole thing. Plus, he does not seem to be the most nervous guy and controls his emotions very well in all situations.

Even if the 33-year-old golfer seems to be one step ahead to win a second title at the U.S. Open, people must not forget that there are still 155 other participants in this major championship. Some of them have recently shown that they are also serious candidates and that they will fight fiercely until the very end.
