The attacker who appeared on fire throughout the 2018-19 season with Atalanta, Duvan Zapata admitted that he hoped to be bought by the La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Zapata stole attention in Italy in the 2018-19 season which was just over. The Colombian international bomber scored 28 goals for Atalanta in all competitions.
Zapata’s big contribution was fruitless. He successfully led Atalanta to the final of the Coppa Italia final and finished in the top four of the Serie A standings, which meant the breakthrough to the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.
Later rumors emerged that Real Madrid were interested in recruiting Zapata this summer. But the 28-year-old player admitted that until now the Los Blancos camp had not contacted him.
“Real Madrid have not contacted me, if I did it,” Zapata said of his dream of joining Madrid in an interview with Caracol.
“I heard that they were associated with me, and it was a proud thing, but I tried to remain calm. I had to be down to earth and think about what was ahead,” he added.
After finishing the season with Atalanta sweetly, Zapata is now trying to focus fully on the Colombian national team which is preparing to welcome the Copa America event.
“I have absolutely no idea about rumors of transfers, but every time I read a news linking me to another club,” Zapata said.
“For now, I am still relaxed and Atalanta is working hard to bring me here,” he continued.
“Yesterday my mind was focused on ending the season as well as possible and now I am shifting focus to the national team,” he stressed.
Atalanta himself got good news in their preparations to welcome the next season with the certainty of Gian Piero Gasperini’s survival in allenatore’s chair.
