Emma Raducanu looks set to move on to hiring tennis legend Ricardo Piatti, former Novak Djokovic coach. This is a step for Raducanu to prepare for the first clay season of her career.
The Brit has been preparing hard for her upcoming debut on clay. She’s set to represent the UK in the Billie Jean King Cup next week, followed by an appearance at the Stuttgart Open.
Raducanu split from coach Andrew Richardson last year. This 19-year-old talent wants to choose a quality and more experienced name for her coach position.
In fact, Raducanu already has a full-time coach Torben Beltz after the two sides started working together in November last year. As such, she was also comfortable using Piatti as her coach.
It’s unclear whether the teenager will replace her current coach Torben Beltz, whom she hired at the end of 2021, or if Piatti will be an addition to her team.
This would be a wise move. Djokovic and Maria Sharapova have worked with Piatti in the past and won a lot of major titles. Raducanu hopes she can follow in the footsteps of her seniors.
Raducanu loses 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 to Katerina Siniakova on Miami Open 2022 debut. She took the first set but Siniakova roared back to win.
“I think I just felt better as the match was going on because really, I was fighting in the beginning,” Siniakova said after the match.
“It looks like I need to lose before I try to start to play my game! It was a really tough match and it could’ve gone either way, but I’m really happy that it [went] for me.” she added.
Raducanu has only played nine WTA Tour events in her career so far, with three of them being Grand Slams.
