Ended career for Boateng, Hummels and Mueller in German team

Career of Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels and Thomas Mueller with the German national team, have certainly ended. Boateng who played as defender has been in German national team since 2004 under GermanyU17. Morever, Hummels who also is a defender, joined the first National team in GermanyU20 in year 2007. Similar as Boateng, Mueller who played the same position has been in German national team since 2004 under GermanyU16.

Certainty was obtained after the German national team coach, Joachim Loew who stated that he would not re-call the three players.  Boateng and Hummels are 30 years old, while Mueller is 29 years old. Age that is considered no longer young for a footballer. Therefore, Joachim Loew chose to dismiss them and give chance to younger German players.

“2019 is the year that has become a new start for the German national team. We want to give them a new face and I’m sure this is the right step,” Loew said, quoted by the BBC on Wednesday (03/06/2019). “National youth players will have the space they need to develop fully and now they must take this responsibility,” he added.

Boateng, Hummels, and Mueller successfully delivered the German national team to the 2014 World Cup trophy. However, the trio of Bayern Munich failed to deliver Germany through the 2018 World Cup group phase.

Not only that, Germany were also relegated from the UEFA Nations League. The last match of that Boateng, Hummels and Mueller participated as German National team resulted in loss. They are defeated by the Netherlands with a score of 0-3 in the UEFA Nations League on 13 October.

Loew’s reshuffle will take effect when the German national team faces a friendly against Serbia in Wolfsburg on March 20. This is a German trial before competing in the Euro 2020 qualifier in the Netherlands, four days later.

President of the German Football Federation, Reinhard Grindel, did not question the changes made by Loew ahead of the Euro 2020 qualification. “I accept the fact that Jogi Loew is now bringing changes to our national team. The start of the Euro 2020 qualification is a good time for personal change,” Grindel said.

Will this change bring German to a better result? We’ll see the result soon.
