Endrick’s first career goal for Brazil helps team script 1-0 friendly win over England!
de Sousa Endrick made his first major mark on the international level when he scored the only goal in Brazil’s 1-0 win over England in their friendly encounter at Wembley on Saturday. The Brazilian side, sporting a new-look Brazil gear got the solitary goal of the match in the 80th minute beating the Brits in a hard-fought game, which weighed almost equally for both sides.
The 17-year-old striker became the youngest goalscorer in Wembley history. His star moment came when Vinicius jr was through on goal as Pickford denied his shot but the ball landed on Endrick’s feet off of the rebound as he tapped it in, thus scoring his first goal for the national side.
Only Andreas was reached by Dunk’s header at the halfway line. When he curled the ball early and in behind, Vinicius Jr. was able to break through and score. Although Pickford saved his attempt admirably, Endrick scored off the rebound into an empty net.
Besides Endrick’s memorable debut goal, this match is also notable for another silent milestone. Lewis Dunk earned his fourth cap and surpassed Steve Foster to become the most-capped player for England from Brighton & Hove Albion. However, it was the Brighton defender’s sloppy mistake that gifted Brazil the only goal of the game. The match also saw Anthony Gordon, Kobbie Mainoo, and Ezri Konsa make their debuts for the English side.
As for England, this turned out to be their first home defeat in a friendly since March 2016, where they lost 2-1 vs The Netherlands. The match saw goals from Vincent Janssen and Luciano Narsingh for the Netherlands and Jamie Vardy scored the only goal for England. Endrick’s goal at Wembley ended England’s 18-game unbeaten run.
Endrick is 17 years and 246 days old as he has scored his first international goal for Brazil. The only players to score for Brazil at a younger age were the great Pele at 16 years and 257 days, followed by Edu at 16 years and 306 days.
