Liverpool managed to conquer host Tottenham Hotspur with a score of 1-0 in the English Premier League match on Saturday (11/1). Roberto Firmino was the sole goal scorer in the match.
In the first round, Liverpool managed to confine Tottenham’s defense. The Reds do not let Tottenham freely hold the ball.
But until the 35th minute, Tottenham also successfully made it difficult for Liverpool to fire on target. The tight defense that was exhibited by Toby Alderweireld and his friends was able to make Liverpool find it difficult to find a gap.
But the robustness of the Tottenham wall collapsed in the 37th minute. From a wild situation, Jordan Henderson headed the ball at Mohamed Salah.
Henderson’s movement helped break the concentration of Tottenham’s defense. Salah pass the ball on Roberto Firmino who spun and fired hard without being able to be held by Paulo Gazzaniga.
Liverpool excellence makes Tottenham can not just play defensive in the second round. But they are difficult to get out of the strong pressure of Liverpool.
Tottenham can only rely on quick counterattacks to threaten Liverpool. One of Tottenham’s best opportunities was created in the 57th minute when Serge Aurier fired a hard shot that was able to be properly secured by Alisson Becker.
Liverpool also have two good opportunities through Roberto Firmino in the 58th minute and Sadio Mane in the 66th minute. But these two opportunities can be countered by Gazzaniga.
Jose Mourinho then tried to change the flow of the game by entering Giovani Lo Celso and Erik Lamela together.
Liverpool back line error almost disastrous results in the 74th minute. Lucas Moura is able to take the ball and give it to Son Heung Min. The opportunity failed to bear a goal because Son’s shot bounced up.
Juergen Klopp’s reluctance to survive is also clear from his decision to withdraw Sadio Mane and replace him with Divock Origi. That proves Klopp still wants to maintain an attack pattern with three strikers.
In the 82nd minute, Tottenham Hotspur again had a golden opportunity, this time through Giovani Lo Celso. But the Argentine was less calm in the final settlement.
In the 89th minute, Erik Lamela fired a shot from outside the penalty box but could easily be tamed by Alisson. Liverpool successfully defended the score 1-0 until the end of the match.
