Manchester City won 1-0 over Leicester City through Gabriel Jesus scored in Week 27 of the English Premier League at King Power Stadium on Sunday (2/23).
In the eighth minute Leicester give a threat to Man City through Jamie Vardy. But Vardy’s kick was one-on-one with goalkeeper Ederson still hitting the opponent’s right post.
Man City immediately responded to Leicester’s threat. Mahrez left foot kick from outside the box in the ninth minute can be blocked by Kasper Schmeichel.
Pressure continues to be given by Pep Guardiola’s team. Gundogan’s kick from inside the penalty box is still too weak and can be easily blocked by Schmeichel.
Leicester tried to respond to the attack in order to get a goal in the first round. But Ricardo Pereira’s left foot shot in the 43rd minute was caught by Ederson.
Schmeichel rescued a brilliant save in the 53rd minute that confronted Kevin de Bruyne’s shot. The Belgian midfielder had the chance to score after receiving a Rodri pass which stole the ball from the Leicester player.
However, De Bruyne’s shot in an ideal position failed to bear fruit after Schmeichel showed a quick response to catch the former Chelsea player’s shot to the post near the Fox.
Man City had a 1-0 chance ahead in the 62nd minute through a Sergio Aguero penalty. However, Aguero’s hard kick into the middle of the goal can be anticipated by Schmeichel with his right foot.
The penalty was awarded by referee Paul Tierney after reviewing the VAR, after kicking Ilkay Gundogan from outside the penalty box was considered to have hit the hands of Dennis Praet.
The second chance in a row from Aguero was again thwarted by Schmeichel in the 66th minute. After getting a breakthrough bait from Mahrez, Aguero kicked off his right foot into the Leicester goal, but Schmeichel was again swiftly confronting the chances of the goal.
Leicester gave strict pressures to Man City. Every now and then Brendan Rodgers’ team presses The Citizens through a quick counterattack. One of them is through full back Ricardo Pereira. However, Pereira’s goal-scoring attempt in the 75th minute failed in Man City’s defense.
Man City’s defense which was filled by midfielder Fernandinho several times became a gap for the host to attack. Vardy had no trouble breaking through the Man City defense that was escorted by Fernandinho. Only, Vardy’s efforts did not produce results.
In the 80th minute, substitute Gabriel Jesus put Man City 1-0 up. After passing from Leicester’s offside trap, Jesus who received Mahrez’s pass broke Schmeichel’s goal with his right foot. Jesus’ goal was checked first with VAR, but the referee finally endorsed the goal.
With no additional goals remaining in the match, Man City won 1-0 over Leicester in Week 27 of the English Premier League.
