Argentine Chelsea player Enzo Fernandez faces heavy sanctions after singing a racist song during the 2024 Copa America championship celebration.
According to a report by BeIN Sports, the 23-year-old player is likely to face heavy sanctions from various football institution, including FIFA. There are at least two threats that could ensnare Enzo Fernandez.
The first threat is a fine of 10 thousand Swiss Francs or equivalent to IDR 182.6 million. However, what is much heavier is being boycotted from professional football for two years.
“A fine of 10 thousand Swiss Francs and a potential ban from football activities for two years,” wrote BeIN Sports.
Not only from FIFA, the mainstay midfielder of the Argentine national team is also likely to be punished by CONMEBOL, the South American football confederation with the chance of a ban on playing at least five matches within a period of two months.
The country where Enzo has a career, England, is also reported to have taken a stance against the former River Plate player’s disgraceful actions. A ban of up to 12 matches is a threat to Enzo Fernandez.
“A sanction of six to 12 matches for discriminatory and offensive speech. Then there is the possibility of a fine that must be paid,” wrote BeIN Sports.
Previously, Enzo and his colleagues ruined Argentina’s victory party at the Copa America with racist chants directed at the French national team.
The chants were heard in the 2022 World Cup final when Argentina met France. Two years later, it turned out that the chants were heard again when Argentina was no longer clashing with France.
The chants alluded to the French national team which contained many players of descent.
Enzo also received a lot of criticism. In fact, his colleagues at Chelsea unfollowed Enzo on social media because of his disgraceful actions.
Chelsea players were not happy with the careless attitude of the former Benfica player who also sang offensive song lyrics about the background of French players.
