The 2020-2021 Premier League is believed to be the stage for Jose Mourinho’s duel against Frank Lampard. Not for Juergen Klopp and Pep Guardiola anymore.
The last two seasons of the Premier League have been dominated by Liverpool and Manchester City alone. During that period, Liverpool and Manchester City always managed to leave their opponents far behind.
However, this season the dominance of both of them began to fade. Manchester City began to lose consistency at the start of the 2020-2021 season. Of the 8 matches they have played, Manchester City have swallowed 2 defeats and 3 draws.
On the other hand, Liverpool is arguably a little better than Manchester City this season. Of the 9 matches they have played, Juergen Klopp’s troops have only received 3 minor results, namely 1 defeat and 2 draws.
Although not very bad, the record is somewhat bad when compared to their achievements last season. While the two clubs are still trying to find consistency, England football expert, Gary Neville, feels that this season there will be a new face in the competition for the title.
Neville appointed two clubs, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, as potential title contenders this season. Neville said this because Chelsea had a good squad and Tottenham had changed for the better since being handled by Jose Mourinho.
Neville also feels that this season the duel between Klopp and Guardiola has ended. Instead, Neville thinks the race for the Premier League title this season will be the stage for a duel between Jose Mourinho and Frank Lampard.
“It’s an interesting season,” said Neville, as quoted from Sky Sports. “I think Chelsea will be attractive at the start of the season because they have an attractive young squad – it looks like Frank Lampard is starting to do it right. He’s still looking for his best team in the first few games to try and fit everyone in.”
“There are some players who are not suitable, but now they have started to work and he is starting to train them. They look quite strong. Is this the season where Jose Mourinho and Frank Lampard face each other in the title race? I think so. At first I thought Liverpool would go alone in the title race this season, but now no, not because Virgil van Dijk is injured. That’s one thing that will make the difference this season and will expose Liverpool even more,” added Neville.
