The competitive gaming industry which is skyrocketing in Indonesia is attracting more and more attention. Starting from news about actors such as players and esports teams, the popularity of tournaments to drama ingredients, it becomes a regular consumption for fans.
Among the good news in the world of esports, there are still stigmas attached that can never be covered. For example, playing games makes children stupid and forget about education, playing games has no future and so on. Various education programs have been carried out to emphasize that esports is not a waste of time. There are many things that can be obtained starting from income, a promising future and achievements that will make the nation proud.
One of the stigmas in the world of esports is that playing games is a waste of time. Gaming and esports are two different things. Playing casual games is aimed at people who play games as a distraction to fill their daily activities. Meanwhile, esports is a competitive activity where players treat gaming activities as a profession accompanied by demands for achievement.
However, many players who want to become esports athletes spend a lot of time without clear goals. They don’t know what to do if they want to be as successful as the figures they see on their devices every weekend. The steps to becoming an esports athlete are not easy. There is a lot of competition and maintaining consistency is very difficult. Just being good isn’t enough to be successful because esports teams evaluate many factors to recruit players.
Two players from Bigetron Alpha, namely Kyy and Super Kenn, shared their experiences regarding the key to changing time commitments when starting a career as an esports athlete to successfully appearing regularly in the current MPL.
“From my personal point of view, the key is consistency. If you have plans or dreams of becoming a pro player, be consistent. Don’t be like playing just to be scolded by your parents. “You have to have your own target so you can prove to your parents that you’re not wasting your time,” said Kyy
“Don’t listen to other people’s words, just focus, including your parents (joking), if your intention is solid, just keep practicing,” said Super Kenn
Parents are indeed the most difficult aspect to convince. Many esports athletes currently have to go the other way before they can prove they have successfully entered the world of esports. Maybe with the changing generation of parents in the future, this will no longer need to be done because future parents will already understand what the profession of a professional esports athlete or gamer is.
