Erik Ten Hag reveals why Manchester United were held by Tottenham Hotspur 2-2

Manchester United failed to gain full points in Week 33 of the 2022-2023 Premier League when they met Tottenham Hotspur. After the game, Erik Ten Hag as coach of the Red Devils -Manchester United’s nickname- exposed the reasons why his team was unable to win.

The clash between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur was held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, England, on Friday (28/4/2023). Manchester United were held to a draw with a score of 2-2.

Two of Manchester United’s goals were scored via Jadon Sancho (7′) and Marcus Rashford (44′). Meanwhile, the home team scored two goals through the actions of Pedro Porro (56′) and Son Heung-min (79′).

At the end of the match, Erik Ten Hag revealed why his team failed to win. According to him, the Red Devils had many opportunities but failed to convert them into goals so they were unable to gain positive results.

“We had a lot of chances but we couldn’t finish them. We weren’t accurate enough, but we scored two goals,” said Erik Ten Hag as quoted by ANTARA, Friday (28/4/2023).

In fact, Manchester United had a golden opportunity to win in the second half through Bruno Fernandes to be precise in the 56th minute. However, the Portugal national team midfielder’s shot hit the Tottenham Hotspur goal post.

Responding to this opportunity, Erik Ten Hag did not want to blame Bruno Fernandes. He emphasised that Manchester United lost because they were unable to appear sharp from the start of the match.

“I don’t blame one player. It was Bruno’s brilliant action before shooting. And as I said, before the break, we were not accurate,” continued the former Ajax Amsterdam coach.

With these results, Manchester United is still in fourth place in the 2022-2023 Premier League standings with 60 points. While Tottenham Hotspur are in fifth position with a collection of 54 points.
