England had to settle for a 0-0 draw against Scotland in the Euro 2020 match (Euro 2021).
In the first half, England had a chance to score through John Stones’ header which hit the post. Beyond that, England had difficulty firing on target.
Scotland also had time to threaten through Stephen O’Donnell’s shot which could be pushed over by England goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford.
Despite not being able to score a goal, Gareth Southgate decided to maintain the composition in the first half. England looked more aggressive and threatening through Mason Mount’s long-range shot which was parried by David Marshall.
As the deadlock continued, England made substitutions by fielding Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford to replace Phil Foden and Harry Kane. Scotland also made substitutions by fielding Stuart Armstrong to replace Billy Gilmour.
In the 78th minute, Che Adams fired from a tight angle but the ball was still far from the target.
Two minutes later, Raheem Sterling fell while making contact with Andy Robertson. However, the referee considered it not a violation.
England tried to continue to press Scotland defense. In injury time, there was chaos in front of Scotland goal. But the ball was successfully removed by John McGinn.
The match ended in a goalless draw.
An additional one point from the match against Scotland makes England now collect four points. England are in second place in Group D, as well as the Czech Republic which also collects four points.
Czechs have the right to top the standings because they have an advantage on goal difference. Czechs themselves managed to get an additional point through a 1-1 draw with Croatia.
Czechs took the lead through Patrik Schick’s penalty in the first half. But Ivan Perisic managed to equalize through a beautiful goal in the 47th minute.
In the last match, England and Czechs will clash with each other for a ticket to the last 16 of Euro 2020 (Euro 2021) as well as the status of group winners. Czechs only needed a draw to maintain their top position in the standings and England could also qualify with this result as group runners up.
Croatia is in third place with one point, as is Scotland in the bottom position.
Croatia and Scotland will face off in the last match. Both teams need a win to open up opportunities to qualify for the round of 16 through the best third-place status or even take the runner-up position. To be able to win the runner-up position, Croatia and Scotland also depend on the results of the Czech vs England.
