Euro 2020 Results: Germany Beat Portugal 4-2

Germany managed to beat Portugal with a score of 4-2 in the Euro 2020 (Euro 2021) match at the Allianz Arena, Sunday (20/6).

Since the first half, Portugal vs Germany duel was interesting. Germany was more dominant in possession and attack, but Portugal was the first to score.

Portugal’s goal came from a beautiful counter-attack scheme. Bernardo Silva’s long pass made Diogo Jota free from the control of the German back line. In the one-on-one duel with Manuel Neuer, Jota chose to pass the ball to Cristiano Ronaldo who effortlessly sent the ball into the goal.

After conceding, Germany continued to try to suppress Portugal’s defense. After experiencing difficulties, Germany finally scored two goals in the last 10 minutes of the first half.

Interestingly, two of Germany’s goals came from own goals. In the 35th minute, Robin Gosens’ kick made Ruben Dias send the ball into his own goal. Four minutes later, it was Joshua Kimmich’s cross that forced Raphael Guerreiro to break into Rui Patricio’s goal.

Leading 2-1 in the first half, Germany continued to press and control the match. Germany’s efforts paid off when they scored the third goal in the 51st minute.

Germany’s slick attack scheme made Robin Gosens stand free on the right side of Portugal’s defense. Gosens sent a ripe pass into the face of the goal which was completed easily by Kai Havertz.

Gosens finally registered his name on the scoreboard in the 60th minute. Gosens stood free to meet the cross that was released by Kimmich. Without a hitch, Gosens was free to head the ball into the net.

Seven minutes later, Portugal managed to reduce the score to 2-4. Starting from a free-kick scheme, Joao Moutinho sent the ball which Ronaldo managed to forward towards Jota. Jota then thrilled the German goal with a shot from close range.

Portugal then put more and more dangerous pressure on it, while Germany, which had attracted several core players, still presented danger through a number of counter-attacking schemes.

With the result of this match, Germany rose to second place with three points, and Portugal is in third place, also with three points, but Portugal lost in head to head against Germany.

France collected four points after a draw against Hungary. France had fallen behind first through Attila Fiola’s goal in the first half before Antoine Griezmann managed to score a reply.

Although Les Bleus are entitled to the top position in Group F, this draw is somewhat detrimental for France. The reason is Antoine Griezmann and his friends still have to fight hard against Portugal in the last match in Group F.

Hungary also got their first point at Euro 2020 (Euro 2021) thanks to a draw against France. This draw also maintains Hungary’s hopes of qualifying for the round of 16.
