Euro 2020 Results: Spain held draw by Sweden

Spain and Sweden share the points after playing a goalless draw in Group E match Euro 2020 (Euro 2021) at Stadoin La Cartuja, Seville, Tuesday (15/6).

Spain’s dominance was immediately felt after the referee blew the whistle to mark the start of the match. Jordi Alba and his friends moved hand in hand to rush into the Swedish game area. The Blaugult team cannot develop and must always defend carefully.

Olmo opportunities in the 16th minute can still be pushed over by Robin Olsen. Meanwhile, Koke’s chance in the 23rd minute failed to bear fruit because it went wide. Then it was Alvaro Morata’s turn who failed to direct the ball into the net in the 38th minute.

Sweden had the best chance through Alexander Isak in the 41st minute. A simple attack that starts from a throw-in keeps the ball in the penalty box. Isak fired a shot that hit Marcos Llorente and hit the post.

Olmo’s long-range shot which was pushed away by Olsen became the last chance in the first half.

Spain ball control again obvious at the beginning of the second half. The Spanish game made the Swedish players settle in the defensive area.

Morata started Spain’s chances in the second half. His shot in the 50th minute was still far from the target.

Sweden displayed a dangerously planned counter-attack in the 61st minute. Isak moved cleverly and crossed to Marcus Berg who was in front of goal, Berg’s late finish failed to get the ball into the net.

Continuing to confine the Swedish defense, Spain just re-created opportunities in the 73rd minute. This time, Danielson blocked Olmo’s chance.

The substitution of Spanish players did not change the situation much. Gerard Moreno who came on to replace Olmo was also unable to beat Olsen through an opportunity in the last minute. Pablo Sarabia who replaced Morata also failed to complete Alba’s pass in injury time.

Spain and Sweden ended in a goalless draw. With the addition of one point from the draw with Sweden, Spain is in second place, followed by Sweden and Poland in the bottom position.
