Bayern Munich successfully beat Sevilla in the European Super Cup final which was held on Friday (25/9) with a score of 2-1.
However, the results were achieved with great difficulty. The reason is, the team made by Hansi Flick had to be 1-0 behind when Lucas Ocampos managed to execute the penalty that the referee gave his team in the 13th minute of the first half.
Bayern Munich had to struggle, until on 34 minutes, Leon Goretzka managed to equalize to 1-1.
After the draw, the game was tough. Until the end of the second half, the two teams still drew 1-1, so the match had to be done with extra time.
It was in that extra time that gave Bayern Munich the victory after in the 104th minute, Javi Martinez managed to break into the Sevilla goal.
2-1 score for Bayern’s victory was successfully maintained until the game ended.
Javi Martinez made an achievement as a goal specialist for Bayern Munich in the European Super Cup as well as leading Die Roten to win the 2020 edition.
Martinez actually just came on to replace Lucas Hernandes in the 99th minute. Five minutes later, he managed to change the score to 2-1 while bringing Bayern champions.
This goal is special for Martinez, who reportedly plans to go home to Spain to strengthen Athletic Bilbao.
“I always gave 100 percent performances for Bayern and I proved it today. Even if I only played 10 or 15 minutes, I will try to help the team and do it with the goal I scored today,” Martinez said on UEFA’s official website.
This is not the first time Martinez has scored and successfully helped Bayern win the European Super Cup. Previously, the 32-year-old midfielder also contributed goals in extra time.
At that time Bayern drew 1-1 against Chelsea to continue to the extra round. In extra time, Chelsea took a 2-1 lead through Eden Hazard before Martinez equalized in stoppage time.
The match must also be determined through the penalty shootout, which was won by Bayern Munich with a score of 5-4.
“I am very happy to have won this trophy for the second time. I also scored a goal in 2013, so it was a great night,” he said.
