Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 700th goal of his career at club level when Manchester United beat Everton 2-1 in Week 10 of the Premier League at Goodison Park, Sunday (9/10).
Ronaldo carved a monumental record in his career ahead of the first half was over. The goal also ended Ronaldo’s wait which took quite a long time to score his 700th goal.
Man Utd did not start this match well. This condition was used by Everton who could open up a 1-0 advantage when the game had only been running for five minutes.
The host’s goal was scored by Alex Iwobi. The former Arsenal player curled a shot into the left corner of the net which David de Gea couldn’t stop.
Everton actually lost momentum after winning. As a result, Man United was able to equalize thanks to a goal scored by Antony using Anthony Martial’s breakthrough bait in the 15th minute.
In the 29th minute Anthony Martial had to be pulled out due to an injury. The position of the French striker was replaced by Ronaldo.
CR7 then scored a goal that brought Man United 2-1 ahead in the 44th minute. Ronaldo did not waste Casemiro’s through ball to thrill Pickford’s goal.
In the second half, Man Utd had several other scoring opportunities. Meanwhile, Everton are not too much of a threat because of the solid defense of the Red Devils.
Manchester United actually scored the third goal against Everton through Marcus Rashford in the 81st minute. However, the referee disallowed the goal, referring to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) observation because he considered Rashford to have had a handball before the goal occurred.
In the second half of injury time, De Gea made a brilliant save. The Spanish goalkeeper brilliantly thwarted a curling shot at the far post which was directed by James Garner.
After that no additional goals were created. Man United can maintain a 2-1 advantage to bring home the three points from the headquarters of Everton.
Reporting from Metro, CR7 has scored five goals during his career at Sporting Lisbon. He was also able to find the net 450 times with Real Madrid, 101 times with Juventus, and 144 times with Man United in two different periods.
Ronaldo’s compatriot and teammate at Old Trafford, Bruno Fernandes, was stunned by the player’s achievements. He considered that CR7 had worked hard to score this goal.
“It’s difficult to keep a tally of Ronaldo’s goals because every week seems like a new record for him,” Fernandes told BT Sport, as quoted by Metro.
“(I’m) very happy because he really worked hard to get this goal. Last Thursday (against Omonia) was a difficult game for Ronaldo because he tried, but the goalkeeper was able to make a good save.”
“Today, he got a goal and a win. That is the most important thing for him: our team can win. As a striker, he certainly wants to score goals. We are also very happy about it,” continued Fernandes.
