PEAK6 is an investment and technology company based in Chicago, United States. They also announced that they had acquired Evil Geniuses (EG) and appointed a new CEO for this organization as part of the agreement.
The value of the organization’s acquisition agreement is indeed not open to the public. According to The Esports Observer, the team refused to disclose more information about the acquisition value.
Nicole LaPointe Jameson, who was previously an associate for Strategic Capital division at PEAK6, will become the new CEO of Evil Genius. Whereas Phillip Aram, COO of EG, will still hold the same position since being chosen from last September 2017.
This was first revealed through the EG official website. Philip Aram as COO of EG revealed that this organization had previously sought to find investors who shared the same vision with EG in the esports industry, and they believed that PEAK6 had the same ideals.
He revealed his trust in PEAK6 investment companies that have experience in various industrial fields, including traditional sports – which are now more inclined to develop into the esports domain as well. In addition, this EG official reveals that this acquisition will not change the external side of EG at all. They will only change the organizational structure better to help them be more successful internally.
Quoted from The Esports Observer, Jenny Just, PEAK6 Co-Founder, had commented on this acquisition. “We have indeed been investors for traditional sports for a long time and we are very excited to be able to go directly to the competitive gaming community.”
He also continued, “seeing the esports industry evolve and evolve, we do have a common vision with EG to create innovative and memorable experiences for the fans and athletes. This collaboration strengthens our mission to lead a competitive spirit and a desire to embrace users through technology. ”
Previously, EG itself was owned by Twitch, a streaming platform for the gaming community; when they acquired Good Game Agency in 2014. December 2016, Twitch took off their ownership and gave it to the players. At that time, the players were even welcome to choose their own management.
EG does have many divisions like Dota 2, Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Rocket League. However, it was their Dota 2 division that made this organization skyrocket its popularity. EG is a team that raised talented young players Sumail Hassan. EG has also been a world champion at Dota 2 while winning The International 2015.
