Formula 1 (F1) racer from McLaren, Lando Norris, accidentally broke the Hungarian Grand Prix champion trophy belong to Red Bull Racing driver, Max Verstappen. The incident happened through his signature champagne celebration.
Verstappen reiterated his dominance this season by managing to become the fastest in the Hungarian Grand Prix F1 race at the Hungaroring Circuit on Sunday (23/7/2023). Second position was then occupied by Norris and the final position on the podium was successfully secured by Verstappen’s teammate, Sergio Perez, in the 70 lap race.
After the trophy awarding session, all the riders on the podium celebrated with the champagne that had been prepared. At that moment, the Hungarian Grand Prix winner’s trophy was “destroyed” because of Norris’ actions.
The McLaren racer from England shook and then stomped a champagne bottle onto the Verstappen podium and then celebrated by spraying the existing champagne. Unfortunately, Verstappen’s trophy fell to the bottom of the floor and was broken into several pieces due to Norris’ action.
Afterwards, the racer born in 1999 immediately approached the Red Bull racer and apologized for breaking Verstappen’s trophy. Verstappen then took all the pieces of his trophy calmly and laughed because of the situation. There was no angry look on Verstappen’s face to suggest that he wasn’t too bothered by the incident after securing his 44th career win.
Verstappen’s win also helped Red Bull Racing set an impressive record of winning 12 races in a row, beating McLaren’s record of 11 wins in a row in 1988. In addition, the son of Jos Verstappen has managed to secure his seventh win in a row and has collected a total of nine wins this season from the 12 races that have taken place.
Verstappen’s winning streak started with the fifth series in Miami, United States. Since then, Max Verstappen’s dominance has not been stopped by other racers until the most recent series at the Hungaroring. Verstappen is the fifth driver in F1 history after Alberto Ascari, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg to record seven consecutive wins.
Meanwhile, Max is firmly at the top of the Formula 1 drivers’ standings this season with 281 points. He is 110 points adrift from Perez in second place, with 171 points.
