FA Cup Result: Man City Qualified for the Quarter-finals

Manchester City qualified for the FA Cup quarter-finals after beating Swansea City 3-1 at the Liberty Stadium on Thursday (11/2).

Pep Guardiola made seven changes to his team which last beat Liverpool. Only four players have been retained, namely Raheem Sterling, Ilkay Gundogan, Rodri and Bernardo Silva.

However, Man City, which has a star-studded squad, is still too tough for Swansea, who play in the second tier of the Premier League.

In the first half they were able to lead 1-0 through Kyle Walker. The English defender managed to snatch a clever cross from Rodri.

At the start of the second half, to be precise in the 47th minute, Man City successfully doubled their lead through Raheem Sterling. Again Rodri took part in this goal.

Sterling completed the bait from Rodri with a measured shot towards the bottom right corner of the goal which was escorted by Freddy Woodman.

Three minutes later, it was Gabriel Jesus who recorded his name on the scoreboard. Receiving Bernardo Silva’s bait in the penalty box, Jesus first turned his body before firing a left-footed shot to bring City 3-0 ahead.

Swansea had time to reduce the position through Morgan Whittake in the 77th minute. However, that goal could not help them get out of defeat.

Although still appearing dominant, City were unable to score additional goals until the game ended. One ticket to the quarter-finals is already in the hands of Pep Guardiola’s men.

Manchester City set the record for the longest winning streak in all domestic competitions in the history of English football.

Opta noted, this is Man City’s 15th consecutive win in all competitions or the longest in the history of English football.

Man City have surpassed the 14 consecutive wins that Preston set in 1892 and Arsenal in 1987.

Pep Guardiola’s squad previously managed to embarrass Liverpool with a score of 4-1 in the Premier League at Anfield Stadium. A victory that brings them closer to the championship trophy.

Currently Man City leads the Premier League standings with a collection of 50 points. They are five points ahead of Manchester United who are in second place or seven points from Liverpool who are perched in fourth.

Apart from pursuing the FA Cup trophy, Man City is also ambitious to win the Premier League which last season was controlled by Liverpool.
