The English Football Association (FA) is reportedly willing to wait for Pep Guardiola to leave Manchester City so that the English national team can be coached by the Spaniard.
After Gareth Southgate decided to resign from his position as England national team coach, a number of famous English and European coaches were reported to be candidates for the new coach of The Three Lions.
One of the names of the candidate coaches who are widely rumored to be the new architect of the England national team is Pep Guardiola. A number of English media even claim that the FA is willing to wait to get Guardiola’s signature.
The problem then arose because Guardiola still has a contract with Manchester City until the end of June 2025. On the other hand, The Citizens management is also believed to be trying hard to retain Guardiola.
To overcome this, the FA is claimed to be appointing an interim coach to coach the England national team until they get Guardiola.
“The FA is considering the idea of appointing an interim coach to try and persuade Pep Guardiola to be the England coach if he decides to leave Manchester City in 2025.”
“Although not the FA’s first choice to wait, the Catalan is an excellent candidate. One who would at least make the FA re-evaluate if the opportunity arose,” wrote the Independent.
Not only must the FA convince Man City to let Guardiola go, the FA must also be able to convince the 53-year-old.
Guardiola has expressed his desire to start a career as an international football coach. However, the former Barcelona coach is said to be interested in coaching the Brazilian national team.
Regarding the interim coach to handle the England national team, the FA is claimed to have chosen Lee Carsley, who is currently the England U-21 coach.
