Manchester United successfully defeated FCSB with a score of 2-0 in the matchday 8 League Phase of the 2024/2025 Europa League held at the Arena Nationala, Thursday (30/1/2025).
Man United’s two winning goals in their visit to Romania were all scored in the second half, each through the actions of Diogo Dalot and Kobbie Mainoo.
Thanks to this result, Man United ended the League Phase in third place with 18 points and was entitled to qualify directly to the last 16. Meanwhile, FCSB was ranked 11th and qualified for the play-off knockout round.
Man United dominated possession of the ball from the start of the match. Ruben Amorim’s troops also created a number of opportunities, but none of them were able to produce results.
On the other hand, FCSB occasionally threatened through counterattacks. The hosts had threatened Altay Bayindir’s goal through Mihai Popescu’s action. Unfortunately, his execution was still wide of the target.
Meanwhile, Man United’s best chance was obtained by Mainoo. Unfortunately, his shot was still slightly over the crossbar. The score remained 0-0 until halftime.
Returning from the locker room, Amorim made two substitutions at once. Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo, both of whom played as flanks, were brought in.
Amorim’s decision proved to be right on target. Man United successfully broke the deadlock in the 60th minute. Dalot, who was standing at the far post, successfully tapped in a crossing ball sent by Mainoo.
In the 68th minute, it was Mainoo’s turn to put his name on the scoreboard. Garnacho’s pull pass was finished off by Mainoo into a goal with a first-time shot.
There were no additional goals scored in the remaining time. The final score of the match was 2-0 for Man United’s victory.
Kobbie Mainoo deserved to be named the best player from Manchester United’s 2-0 win over FCSB.
Mainoo really took full advantage of the starting opportunity given to him by Ruben Amorim this time. The 19-year-old player performed impressively throughout the match.
Mainoo played a part in creating the goal that broke the deadlock. His cross to the far post found Dalot who could easily tap the ball into a goal.
Then, Mainoo himself registered his name on the scoreboard. The placing kick he fired to meet Alejandro Garnacho’s pass left the opposing goalkeeper speechless.
