Stefanos Tsitsipas has been struggling for results recently, dropping out of the Top 10 after nearly five years. Despite this slump, he received praise from tennis legend Roger Federer.
In a recent interview, Federer expressed his hope that his former rival, the Greek tennis player, will return to his best form and achieve strong results this year.
“Of course, Tsitsipas is still doing well, and I hope he can do great things this year and turn his career around,” Federer said.
“Well, I mean, obviously I’ve lost to him a lot of times and I think he’s a great player, but I’d like to see him take it to the next level. So I wish him the best,” Federer added.
Tsitsipas’ most recent tournament win was in August 2023 at the ATP 250 event in Los Cabos. He has not won a tournament since then. However, he has started the 2024 season strong with a 9-4 win-loss record.
His accomplishments at a young age are undeniable. Reaching two Grand Slam finals, winning the ATP Finals, and achieving a No. 3 ranking by 25 showcase his exceptional talent and potential.
Federer also pointed out that the current tennis season is a particularly challenging one, with a number of top players returning from injury.
“There’s a lot of competition out there at the moment. Rafa [Nadal] is back playing well, Novak [Djokovic] is still playing at an incredibly high level, and there are a number of other young players who are coming through.” Federer said.
“It’s a tough environment to be in, but Stefanos is a fighter. I’m sure he’ll be back to his best soon.” he added.
Tsitsipas has spoken openly about his struggles in recent weeks. He admitted that he is feeling the pressure of expectation and is working on finding his confidence again.
“I’m definitely going through a tough time right now. But I’m working hard to improve my game and get back to the level that I know I can be at. I’m confident that I can turn things around.” Tsitsipas said.
