Feels like I have not achieved anything: Valterri Bottas

Valterri Bottas

Valterri Bottas, driver for Mercedes Formula 1 team, expressed his intention to work for World Championship this season.

Bottas feels empty handed with no world title to his name and thinks that he has not “achieved anything”.

The Finnish driver has won multiple podiums. He marked his presence at his first Formula 1 team, Williams, with nine podiums. The success at track lead him to the lead driver position where Felipe Massa accompanied him.

In 2016, with the retirement of Nico Rosberg from Mercedes produces an opportunity for the Finnish.

Mercedes hired Bottas to accompany Hamilton, where he proved himself with the maiden race win.

But Bottas could not out scored his team mate, Lewis Hamilton. He wasn’t able to find a single won last year which put his long term relation with Mercedes at risk.

Mercedes has been training Esteban Ocon to fill in their team, who is highly rated in F1 circles.

FUTURE STRATEGY

While answering to his intentions to accomplish his target this year, Bottas said: “Well, first of all I feel I still haven’t achieved anything in Formula 1 – so for myself I still have a lot to achieve.

“I do want to meet my targets, so, yes, I still have a lot to do in Formula 1.

“I feel like I have nothing to prove for anybody else, except me.

“The team knows exactly what I’m capable of doing. And I know exactly what I can do if I can perform at my very best.”

Bottas started last year season with promising performance but ended to a disappointing position of 5th at drivers list while his team mate aced fifth world title.

Bottas went for a sure victory where misfortune hit him with tyre puncture making way for his team mate to win the race. Later another opportunity at Sochi arises where he was asked to follow team order.

“It was a disappointing season and nearly made me angry to myself that it’s been six years in Formula 1 and I’ve not achieved my target yet,” Bottas said.

“I do have time. But I’m starting to realise you definitely only have one career.

“I don’t want to be in a situation again that I feel like that, that I start to question myself, if I could have done something better.

“I just want to make sure this year I do everything I can to achieve those targets. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to achieve those. Mentally prepared to put it all in.”
