Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes seems to be quite concerned about seeing his compatriot, Cristiano Ronaldo, be the one to blame for the fall of Juventus in the 2020-2021 Champions League. He felt that Ronaldo did not deserve to bear such a huge burden alone.
Because for Fernandes, Juventus’ failure in the Champions League is not Ronaldo’s fault. There is a team that has to bear that burden. So, the other Juventus players deserved to blame.
Fernandes assessed that football is not a sport that can only rely on one player. Football is a game where teamwork is important.
When the team fails, then all parties must bear the blame and not just one person like what Ronaldo is currently experiencing.
So, that’s why Fernandes feels sorry for Ronaldo who gets so much pressure for things that shouldn’t be borne alone.
Fernandes himself is aware that Ronaldo has an important role at Juventus. Moreover, Ronaldo was brought in in the summer of 2018 from Real Madrid because Juventus wanted the player nicknamed CR7 to bring their team to the Big Ear trophy.
However, in fact, until now or after Ronaldo’s three seasons at Juventus, the Portuguese player has always failed to make the Bianconeri look sweet in the Champions League.
In fact, Juventus and Ronaldo have never felt the atmosphere of the semifinals in the competition. The farthest Juventus can achieve in the last three seasons is only reaching the quarter-finals.
It was these results that made Ronaldo end up under such tremendous pressure. Fernandes also hopes that Ronaldo can get up and win as many titles as he has done for the past decade.
“Cristiano is one of the greatest players in football history. His mentality is able to inspire those who play in this sport. He has won many things, but no one can win alone (in football),” explained Fernandes, Friday (12/3/2021 ).
“I understand that his presence at Juventus has created huge expectations for the Champions League, but when a team loses, it is the whole squad, not just one player, who feels defeated.”
