Ferrari is working tirelessly to try to solve their problems that have prevented them from beating Mercedes in the first three races of the 2019 season.
The Scuderia has a good car this season, but as Nico Rosberg pointed out just after the Chinese Grand Prix, the Italian team suffers from a fundamental aerodynamic problem on the SF90.
At Shanghai International Circuit, Ferrari’s SF90 still had a four-tenth advantage over Mercedes in straight lines, but that advantage melted like snow in the sun on the winding parts of the circuit.
Maranello team manager Mattia Binotto insisted that Ferrari was already working on solving this problem with the development of a new Mercedes-style rear wing, which should be introduced at the Spanish Grand Prix. .
“According to the circuit, we have certain limitations. So, we are working on a rear wing like Mercedes. First comes the laptime, then the reliability.” Binotto told AMUS.
This new rear wing should not be introduced for the next race in Azerbaijan, as the characteristics of the Baku urban layout require the introduction of less pronounced fins due to the very long straight start /or finish line.
In addition to this new rear wing, the Scuderia should refine its aerodynamic package at the front of the car to meet a certain balance of flow on the body of the SF90.

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, said he is very impressed with the speed of Ferrari this year but his rival more towards the lower-speed corners.
“We know that Ferrari is over four tenths faster than us on the straights every lap, but they are losing time in the corners. I’m curious to see when they change the setup accordingly. It will be interesting to see how long they adopt that strategy in the coming races.” Hamilton said.
The next series are in Baku, which features F1’s longest straight, and Barcelona, where Ferrari looked to have the fastest car in pre-season testing.
