Motorsport’s governing body, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) officially implemented a minimum two stop demand for drivers at the Monaco Grand Prix which will start in 2025.
“Following recent discussions in the F1 Commission, a specific requirement for the Monaco Grand Prix has been approved mandating the use of at least three sets of tyres in the race, with a minimum of two different tyre compounds to be used if it’s a dry race.” FIA said in a statement.
According to reports, the Formula 1 authority aims to increase excitement when organising the Monaco Grand Prix races.
“This decision, which has been in the works for some time, applies exclusively to the Monaco Grand Prix,” a representative for the Automobile Club de Monaco said.
“It aligns with the shared vision of Formula 1, the FIA and the ACM to enhance the spectacle for drivers, spectators and global television audiences alike.
“We will see the impact of this rule at the 82nd Formula 1 TAG Heuer Grand Prix de Monaco in May 2025.” he added.
The 2024 season presented an unexciting racing atmosphere because only four drivers were able to overtake their rivals during races.
The initial lap red flag halted the competition as it prompted a stoppage of the race and multiple teams chose to switch their tyres during caution.
Critics confirm that the Monaco Grand Prix fails to generate excitement because the racing cars grow in size on unchanged circuits.
Home driver Charles Leclerc showed his support for the changes to enhance excitement at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix following his victory last season.
Everyone will watch Monaco street events from May 22nd to May 25th to determine whether these changes will maintain their impact on motorsport’s most glamorous competition.
