Final Denmark Open 2022, Hope of Henry IP Comes True

The Denmark Open 2022 final brought together Indonesian representatives in the men’s doubles sector, namely Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto. The match between Marcus/Kevin vs Fajar/Rian in the final of the Denmark Open 2022 is held at the Jyske Bank Arena, Sunday (10/23/2022). With the creation of the all Indonesian finals at the Denmark Open 2022, the hopes of the men’s doubles coach Herry Iman Pierngadi have come true.

Indonesia originally sent five men’s doubles representatives at the Denmark Open 2022. With the five pairs, Herry IP hopes that one of his students can become the champion. “We want to win because we sent five pairs to Denmark. Whoever wins is basically Indonesia,” said Herry.

Marcus/Kevin and Fajar/Rian qualified for the final of the Denmark Open 2022 by both defeating representatives of Malaysia. Marcus/Kevin won over world champion Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik with a score of 21-17, 13-21 and 21-17. Meanwhile, Fajar/Rian defeated Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi in two straight games 21-16, 22-20.

For Marcus/Kevin, this is their first successful return to the BWF tournament finals after waiting for almost 10 months. The last time Marcus/Kevin appeared in the final was when they were runners-up at the 2021 BWF World Tour Finals. Marcus/Kevin’s last title was the Indonesia Open 2021.

As for Fajar/Rian, the Denmark Open 2022 became their eighth final in 12 BWF tournaments this year. From the seven finals this year, Fajar/Rian successfully won three titles, namely the Swiss Open, Indonesia Masters, and Malaysia Masters.

Marcus/Kevin had to admit defeat to Fajar/Rian in the final of the Denmark Open 2022, Sunday (10/23/2022). The Minions, nicknamed Marcus/Kevin, lost 19-21 and 26-28 to Fajar/Rian in the match which took place at Jyske Bank Arena. After the match, Marcus/Kevin admitted that Fajar/Rian appeared better and calmer.

Marcus also tried to evaluate the performance in the match. “The evaluation, when leading, we must not be careless,” said Marcus. “We were ahead, but we were overtaken. Going forward, we have to be more focused and not make our own mistakes,” he said. For Marcus/Kevin, the defeat in the final of the Denmark Open 2022 further extended their title drought to 11 months. Marcus/Kevin’s last title was at the Indonesia Open 2022.
