First Week of La Liga: Madrid’s Victory, and The Defeat of Zidane

During Real Madrid’s preparations for the preseason yesterday, it was a common sight to see Gareth Bale absennce from Real Madrid matches, even from Madrid’s training session as well. Zidane himself, as Madrid coach, had told the media about Bale’s current position by saying that “if he leaves tomorrow, it is better”, and Bale was already preparing to leave Madrid with James Rodriguez and Mariano Diaz.

But in the first week of La Liga where Madrid succeeded in overthrowing Celta Vigo 3-1 was a sign of the fall of Zidane in the hands of his players. Now it seems that Zidane wants Bale, who reached the pinnacle of his career with Madrid again to be part of his plan once again, maybe that applies also to James Rodriguez who, despite only being on the Madrid bench, was the first after two seasons were banished to Bayern Munich.

The narrative in Madrid seems to be changing

Nobody expected that Bale would be given the opportunity to start in La Liga’s first match of the season due to the poor relationship between him and Zidane. Apart from the injury of Madrid’s new star, Eden Hazard, Rodrygo Goes, Ferland Mendy, Brahim Diaz and Marco Asensio. Bale showed his class as a star player in the match against Celta Vigo, despite his involvement in the team’s preparations during preseason. Bale’s brilliant performance against Celta, was one of Madrid’s winning factors including when he assisted Karim Benzema’s first goal. And more importantly Bale becomes the best player in the match.

Napoli and Atletico Madrid are two teams who are eager to secure the signature of James from Madrid. If with Napoli Madrid object to releasing James because of selling price issues, but not the case with Atletico. Madrid’s 7-3 defeat of Atletico in the preseason match made James’s opportunity to anchor at Atletico blocked by Perez because he did not want to strengthen one of Madrid’s rivals in La Liga.

And although Zidane has consistently shown a rejection of James’s presence in his squad, now he has to lower his head and start seeing the Colombian playmaker as an alternative, as he shows by placing James on Madrid’s bench in the match against Celta Vigo. The situation regarding Bale and James has changed 180 degrees. Although it seems that Perez and Zidane managed to change Madrid’s squad from the downturn last season, but the truth is the opposite, Bale and James have won the battle.
