Barcelona have registered the names that will be played in the 2021-2022 Europa League and their new players, namely Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Adama Traore are also registered.
However, because these two players had to be sacrificed by the Blaugrana and the team chose to drop their senior player, namely Dani Alves.
As is known, the Blaugrana – Barcelona’s nickname – has failed to qualify for the 2021-2022 Champions League group stage. As a result they had to be eliminated and thrown into the Europa League this season by getting into the playoffs.
After UEFA conducted the draw, Barcelona turned out to be facing a tough challenge by meeting one of the big Italian clubs, Napoli. Now, they determine which players will be included.
In the winter of 2021, Barcelona is quite active in the transfer market. They have the arrivals of Dani Alves, Ferran Torres, Adama Traore and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
However, Europa League regulations only allow a limited number of players. Each club can only register three new players in the winter, so one of Barcelona’s new players must be sidelined.
From the official Barcelona website, Thursday (3/2/2022), Xavi decided not to register Alves. While the names of Torres, Traore and Aubameyang were included in the list of players.
In total, there are 32 players included in the Barcelona squad in the Europa League. 24 of them are members of the senior team and eight are back-up players from the academy.
The first leg of the playoffs towards the last 16 of the 2021-2022 Europa League will take place on 17 February. They will host Napoli in that match. Barcelona clearly has to win if they want to continue playing in the European club competition.
However, beating Napoli is not an easy matter and therefore Barcelona must immediately improve before facing the Italian representative if they want to win.
