Former Manchester United Player Calls Josep Guardiola Damaged the German National Team

Former Manchester United player, Bastian Schweinsteiger, says Josep Guardiola has damaged the German national team. The 38-year-old man accused Pep -Guardiard’s nickname- as part of one of the factors Die Mannscahft -the nickname of the German national team – have fallen in recent tournaments.

As is known, the German national team experienced a decline in performance after winning the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Since then, Die Mannscahft have always been eliminated early in the group phase in two editions of the World Cup, namely the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

At the European level, the German national team also fell in the quarter-finals of the 2020 European Cup. Even though Die Mannscahft had previously reached the semifinals of the 2016 European Cup. The only achievement for the German national team after winning the 2014 World Cup was winning the 2017 Confederations Cup.

Recently, the former Manchester United and Bayern Munich midfielder, Bastian Schweinsteiger, accused Guardiola of damaging the German national team’s achievements. The 38-year-old man accused the role of the Manchester City coach as one of the factors Die Mannscahft slumped in recent tournaments.

The reason is that Bastian Schweinsteiger believes that the game of tiki-taka brought by Pep Guardiola while coaching Bayern Munich has had an impact on the decline in the performance of the German national team. Since the departure of Pep Guardiola from Bayern Munich, the German national team is said to have lost its best one-two bait game.

“This is a very difficult situation for the German national team and for football in general,” Bastian Schweinsteiger told talkSPORT, quoted from Sportbible, Saturday (8/7/2023). “I think there have been a lot of changes. You know when Pep Guardiola joins Bayern Munich, when he came to the country, everyone believed we had to play football like this, like short passes and everything,” Schweinsteiger added.

“(After Pep Guardiola left) we kind of lost our values, you know. I think most other countries see Germany as fighters and we can run to the end and everything,” continued the former Manchester United player. “The strength, over the last seven, eight years, we forgot about that. We focused more on playing the ball well against each other and that’s one of the reasons.”

For information, Pep Guardiola himself coached Bayern Munich for three seasons from 2013-2014 to 2015-2016. During his time in charge of Die Roten – the nickname of Bayern Munich, Pep Guardiola has brought domestic achievements and changes in the playing field of the German League giants.
