Norwegian Rally champion, Petter Solberg, will make his debut at Formula 1 Virtual Grand Prix this weekend. In fact, the Virtual GP will be held in place of the real-life Dutch GP, which had been scheduled to make its F1 return on May 3 before the coronavirus pandemic put the season on hold.
“It is a real honor for me to be invited to join the Renault DP World F1 Team for the Virtual Dutch Grand Prix. Rally has always been everything for me, but I had the chance to drive a Formula 1 earlier in my career.” Solberg said.
“So getting started in a Formula 1 race at this point in my career is something really cool. Seriously, however, it’s very cool. We are all changing the way we do while the world is the way it is and I am really looking forward to driving with Christian [Lundgaard].
“His father Henrik and I competed when we were younger, so I’m glad my teammate comes from a good rally family. Like all, I will give that 110% and do my best. When we do something, we do it with one goal: to win. But I have a question: is it definitely too late to install a handbrake on my car?” Solberg added.
According to reports, Solsberg will team up with Renault F1 junior Christian Lundgaard in the French marque’s line-up for the race.
“I am looking forward to participating in another Formula 1 Esports event. It’s going to be cool to team up with Petter, especially since my father used to race against him in rallying.” Lundgaard said.
“It will be great to get back into the racing mentality. As a driver, we always want to win, whether in real or virtual cars. I always have this fighting instinct like all drivers in competition.
“I’m going to train for many hours to learn a new track, so it’s a fun challenge. It will be cool to race again with the Formula 1 drivers and hopefully show what I can do while putting on a show for the fans.” Lundgaard added.
