French national team captain Kylian Mbappe has undergone an examination after injuring his nose when facing Austria on the first matchday of Euro 2024.
France coach Didier Deschamps said Mbappe’s horror injury was the worst moment last night at Euro 2024.
France’s 1-0 victory over Austria in the Euro 2024 Group D match at the Dusseldorf Arena Stadium, Tuesday (18/6) early morning, was marred by a horror injury suffered by Mbappe.
Mbappe had to receive treatment in the 86th minute after a duel in the air with Austrian player Kevin Danso. Mbappe’s nose was bleeding because he hit Danso’s shoulder.
The Mbappe incident looks quite serious. A lot of blood came out, hitting Mbappe’s face and even jersey.
Mbappe’s horror injury even required him to be rushed to hospital. In the press conference after the match French coach Didier Deschamps said Mbappe was not in good condition.
“Kylian’s [condition] was not good. It was a bad shot [for us]. His nose was not good. It was complicated. That was the worst moment of the night,” said Deschamps.
Meanwhile, N’Golo Kante said the French players were worried about Mbappe’s condition after suffering a horrific broken nose.
“We were worried when we saw Mbappe leave the field. We don’t know what the situation is, but we want to see him return to the team soon,” said Kante.
Luckily, Mbappe did not need surgery due to his nose injury, as reported by L’Equipe.
“Preliminary examinations carried out on Kylian Mbappé at a Dusseldorf hospital on Monday evening, after suffering a serious injury to the nose during the match against Austria (1-0), showed reassuring results,” wrote L’Equipe.
“Therefore, it was decided not to carry out surgery on the captain of the French national team.”
“Mbappe has left hospital and may even be able to participate in Friday’s match against the Netherlands, if the medical team allows it,” the statement continued.
