The French national team was held to a draw by the Polish national team on matchday 3 of Group D Euro 2024 at Signal Iduna Park, Tuesday (25/06/2024).
The 2024 European Cup match between France vs Poland was quite interesting. Les Blues dominated the match but The Eagles were able to play loose and put up quite a fierce resistance.
The French goal was scored by Kylian Mbappe. Meanwhile, Poland’s goal was scored by Robert Lewandowski.
This result made France score five points and they finished in second place in Group D of the 2024 European Cup. Meanwhile, Poland is at the bottom of the standings with just one point.
The French national team immediately put pressure on the Polish national team’s defense. They tried to dismantle the opponent’s defense patiently.
In the 10th minute a neat opportunity was created for France. Dembele entered the left side of the Polish goal and sent a pass into the middle of the penalty box, but no one responded to the pass. At the far post the ball was finally struck by Theo Hernandez. However, the ball was still driven out of the field thanks to Skorupski’s right foot.
In the 14th minute Poland had a chance from a dead ball situation. They got a corner kick on the right side of the French goal. The ball went to Urbanski and he fired with his left foot. However, Maignan still managed to secure the ball.
In the 19th minute Kiwior lost the ball in the middle of the field and the ball was controlled by Kante. He then took the ball to the front of the penalty box and gave Ousmane Dembele a mature pass. He then opened fire but the ball was brilliantly blocked by goalkeeper Skorupski.
In the 33rd minute, Poland had an opportunity. They attacked from the left and sent a cross into the middle of the penalty box. Lewandowski headed the ball but unfortunately it only went narrowly wide to the right side of the goal.
In the 41st minute, clever movements by three French players, including Barcola, allowed Mbappe to finally open a shot in the Polish penalty box. However, Skorupski could still counter this opportunity.
In the 44th minute, Mbappe threatened the Polish goal again thanks to Barcola’s backheel pass. He stabbed in from the left halfspace and fired from a fairly narrow angle. However, Skorupski blocked this opportunity again.
In the end, no goals were scored until halftime. France 0-0 Poland.
At the start of the second half France played aggressively again. They immediately put pressure on the Polish defense led by Kylian Mbappe.
In the 48th minute France finally got a chance from Mbappe’s kick from inside the penalty box in the left halfspace. His curling shot at the far post was still blocked by Skorupski.
In the 55th minute, France was awarded a penalty. The reason is that Jakub Kiwior carelessly made a tackle on Ousmane Dembele which unfortunately the timing was wrong. Mbappe then executed the penalty perfectly. 1-0!
In the 76th minute it was the referee’s turn to award a penalty to Poland. Because there was a violation committed by Upamecano.
Lewandowski then executed the penalty but the ball was pushed over by Maignan. However, the referee repeated the kick from point 12 because Maignan had previously made a mistake. On this second chance, Lewandowski made no mistake. 1-1!
In the 85th minute, France got a chance from Giroud’s shot which received a pass from Kounde. However, Bednarek could still block this opportunity.
In the end, in the remainder of this match no additional goals were scored. France 1-1 Poland.
