Francais Ngannaou will defend his heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane at UFC 270 in January 2022. The Predator has been waiting for a viable opponent ever since.
The UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou won heavyweight title after beating Stipe Miocic at UFC 260 in March. However, the Nigerian fighter has not entered the Octagon since his last fight.
Ngannaou insisted to have fight with the former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones in a title fight. However, the fight never happened for official reasons.
Gane, who just picked up his recent win over Derrick Lewis, has become the UFC first-ever interim heavyweight champion.
Following Gane’s TKO win over Lewis, Ngannou tweeted, “Impressive performance from Gane! He’s now a legit contender. See you soon boy. When you know you know.”
Nagannaou is one of the most famous names in the UFC heavyweight division. The 16-3 record holder is a qualified finisher with twelve knockout wins and four submission wins under his name. He’s been undefeated since 2018 and is currently on a five-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, Gane has been unstoppable in the heavyweight division since making his debut in the promotion.
The Frenchman has four knockouts and three submission wins on his resume. He’s outclassed many big names in the UFC heavyweight roster. That said, both heavyweights appear to have decent finishing skills.
“I think it’s OK. Now I’m comfortable with the situation. He has the belt. We were born in the same gym with the same coach. Now, for the title, for the belt, I can do this.” Gane said.
Ngannou could get a decisive win if the fight goes beyond three rounds, given his experience and previous fights in the promotion.
While many people believe Ngannaou would successfully defend his title against Gane. However, his opponent can offer a tough fight.
