Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong has insisted that there’s no agreement between him and Manchester United will be signed this summer.
According to reports, Erik ten Hag wants Barcelona’s De Jong to be one of Manchester United’s first signings.
Speaking at ESPN, De Jong, who is currently joining the Dutch national team, said he do not want to talk about rumours and just want to stay at Barcelona.
“I’d rather stay at Barcelona, I’ve said it before. Barcelona has been my dream club since I was a kid.” De Jong said.
“If other clubs call, of course I will still pick up the phone. But I don’t want to talk about rumours anymore. I feel happy in Barcelona. There is no deal here.” De Jong added.
Barcelona is open to offers for De Jong and is willing to accept a loss on the player, despite Manchester United’s ambition to improve their midfield options.
However, the Dutch midfielder insisted that there’s no discussions and also denied that he was recently contacted by his former manager Ten Hag.
“The club never tell me anything. They never ask me to do anything. Of course I heard about the connection from Manchester United, but the people in charge at Barca never say anything to me.” De Jong said.
“However, I can confirm there will be no deal, you don’t have to worry. The connection with Ten Hag? I won’t reveal it.” he added.
De Jong and Ten Hag have known each other well since their working days at Ajax. The duo enjoyed much domestic success together and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League before De Jong moved to Barca in 2019.
Ten Hag wanted to reunite with De Jong in English Premier League as soon as he arrived at Old Trafford. Unfortunately for De Jong, what he really wants is a place in the Champions League, which Ten Hag is right now unable to provide.
